My Health Record Story
Having access to your health record is an important part of being active in your personal care. I first learned the importance of having a copy of my personal health record after meeting Sonia in the waiting room of my doctors office. She told me the story of how her granddaughter- a nursing student, taught her the importance of keeping a personal health record after her most recent fall.
Sonia had been battling multiple chronic conditions, and was prescribed numerous medications from different doctors. Her granddaughter helped her assemble a personal health record to take with her to her doctors appointments, and since then she has been trying to spread the word while staying-up on her health and her health care.
This animation was how I remember the conversation.

Older folks teaching younger folks... And they listen.....priceless!

I'm a fairly recently graduated nurse, had a long career in corporate communications/PR prior thereto, and am nearly 60 years old. I loved this video, but would just add that the little sign behind the young man's shoulder about silencing cell phones -- while cute -- should actually promote the IT.gov site instead so viewers get that added reinforcement. Just a thought!

Thank you for the thought, Catherine. With your background it makes sense that you would pick up on an opportunity like that to tie in the IT.gov site some more. To me, the sign was a chance to sell the fact that the kid is unaware, almost apathetic to what's around him, and in this case it's his health- but for the sake of this contest you make a very good point. Thanks for checking it out- glad you enjoyed it!
